Bigcommerce, the Leading E-commerce Platform for Small Businesses has Just Secured $20 million

The e-commerce platform just announced it has secured $20 million in Series B funding led by existing investors General Catalyst Partners and joined by new strategic investor, Mike Maples of FLOODGATE, bringing the company’s total venture capital funding to $35 million. The funding will allow the company to further expand accelerated product development and create significant expansion of the sales and marketing teams.
In addition to the news of their recent funding, the e-commerce platform has also announced a major brand overhaul in an effort to make business software simpler to use by redesigning their Web site, adding an app store and creating a new company logo and tagline, ‘Sell More’.
Bigcommerce was cofounded in 2009 by Mitchell Harper and Eddie Machaalani and with over 1,000 percent growth in SaaS (software-as-service) revenue since launching, it has become the fastest-growing e-commerce platform in the world. It has already doubled its global employee base this year and plans to increase its staff by 70 percent over the next two years. Its existing clients include Gibson Guitar, Pandora Jewelers, and Collette Dinnigan.
