Bloomingdale’s Launches Shopping App

   Big Brown Bag Coming to an iPhone /Android Near You

Bloomingdales has focused on increasing their online presence and has done so with the launch of their new Big Brown Bag app. This app is currently available for iPhone and Android, which are both dominant smartphones across the U.S. Consumers can search and buy products at bloomimgdales.com. Other features of the app include learning about in-store events, putting together wedding registries, viewing product details such as customer reviews and paying a Bloomingdale’s credit card bill.

The Big Brown Bag app will be joining other Bloomingdale’s apps such as the 59th Street app for iPhone and the iCatalog app for iPad.

Retailers are known for lacking behind when it comes to staying up-to-date with current technology. With the soaring trend of online shopping and ecommerce, retailers are almost forced to enhance their technology in order the stay afloat and meet the needs of the consumer. For the first time in decades retailers are prioritizing and putting their main focus on increasing their online presence. Macy’s has just announced a technology vision for the company and Barneys has revamped their entire website to increase revenue growth.

Anne Bridges, senior vice president of marketing, site merchandising, internet production and planning for bloomingdales.com states that, “Launching the Bloomingdale’s Big Brown Bag mobile application is a foundational step in our vision to support our customers’ omni-channel shopping experience. We want to encourage customers to use their mobile devices in our stores.”

The Big Brown Bag app is a great example of how retailers are beginning to embrace social shopping. Hopefully this will be a trend that all retailers decide to follow.
