Under AmourThis past Wednesday, the FashInvest team were guest of Consensus Advisors at The Next Great Consumer Brand Showcase at the NASDAQ where twenty emerging and growth companies showcased to an audience of investors and advisors.  We had a chance to listen to Kevin Plank, CEO and Founder of Under Armour, who presented a powerful message on entrepreneurship, its necessity for our global economy `and encouraging a new generation to lead with innovation and courage, to explore the unknown, and create enterprises today that address markets and needs not yet recognized. This is exactly what he did when he started his global enterprise as a student and football player at the University of Maryland.  Mr. Plank presented his story of Under Armour (“UA”) and how his simple creation of a compression based spandex t-shirt to wick away perspiration from he and his fellow football players has grown to a nearly $2 billion dollar annual revenue global company with a market capitalization approaching $6 billion.

It will be an Italian made, high-end, vegan luxury shoes inspired by LA fashion, music and motorcycles. “I love utilitarian function and gritty realism. Like the nuts and bolts, literally the ones found in a hardware store, holding the whole thing together. kaluluLast week, FashInvest featured Kalulu Kids clothing line and its African inspired pieces created by Milbert K. Bentham.  Bentham used her business background to start up her company. She studied economics at Cornell and received her MBA at Georgetown University. While working mostly with finance, Bentham always had a love for fashion.  “My grandmother was a seamstress and used to make my dresses and I would help her cut patterns from newspapers and have an opinion about my dresses. Through high school and college, I was also always involved in fashion mostly through modeling,” explained Bentham. She even modeled for different student organizations and design leagues during her time at Cornell.  So, why Kalulu?
