FashInvest Attends StyleCaster’s State of Style Summit

On Thursday, October 11, 2012, StyleCaster hosted an event called State of Style Summit. The event consisted of a variety of panels, activities and networking opportunities. Panel participants consisted of Donata Minelli, CEO of Yigal Azrouel and Cut25, Uri Minkoff, President and Co-founder of Rebecca Minkoff and Dr. Joyce F. Brown, President of the Fashion Institute of Technology (to name a few). The topics surrounding the panels were quite interesting; my favorites were: Storytelling in a Digital Age and Luxury Lifestyle for the Facebook Generation.

State of Style Summit Panelist

Storytelling in a Digital Age: On this panel, participants discussed how content shapes brand decisions on the highest level. They stress the importance of the brand’s role in the consumer’s life. I feel that this point was very important, seeing how the consumer’s lifestyle weighs in a lot when deciding what to buy. They also discussed how to take a budget brand and make it aspirational and something that consumers can relate to. Another great point that was brought up was when creating a story for your brand; make sure you’re talking to the consumer that you want. From what I understood, this meant understanding EVERYTHING about your consumer, what does he/she like, what inspires them, what’s a day like in their shoes? Overall understanding your consumer and starting with them in the center circle.

“The brands that are going to win are the brands that tell the best stories.”  ~David Lang, President of Mindshare Entertainment

Luxury Lifestyle for the Facebook Generation: This topic has surged throughout the internet over the past two months. Panelist discussed how social media and other forms of technology have changed the definitions of exclusivity and luxury. During New York Fashion Week (which has been label as an exclusive event for decades), consumers were able to sit front row of shows via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and live streams. Some designers and brands even allowed consumers the ability to purchase looks right after they’ve hit the runway during fashion week.

“Luxury is no longer the same; everybody is their own brand now.” ~Judy Liccht, First Comes Fashion

At the summit, Ari Goldberg, CEO of StyleCaster, also announced the launch of the company’s First Independent Publisher Resource, “The Masthead.” This is a unique platform where bloggers and independent publishers can build their blogs into businesses with premium content, tools and workshops. Overall, the summit was a great success and very informative!
