Girlboss Media, a Los Angeles-based female-focused media platform, has raised $1.2 million in seed funding.
The investment was led by Slow Ventures with participation from BAM Ventures, Human Ventures and a group of unnamed angel investors.
Sophia Amoruso, of Nasty Gal fame, launched the media brand this past March with a Girlboss Rally and an online publication, as an offshoot of her 2014 female entrepreneurship tome “#Girlboss.”
The media brand focuses on helping women of different races and backgrounds find the inspiration to jumpstart their lives and entrepreneurial pursuits.
“The archetype of success was built largely by and for white men,”Amoruso told Forbes. “I don’t claim to have the answers. I just want to start a new conversation.”
Amoruso’s will use the investment to continue to fund the site and host more Girlboss Rallies, that bring together top female voices in entrepreneurship, across the globe.
