Marquee will acquire BCBGMAXAZRIA, BCBGeneration, Herve Leger and all the brands’ related intellectual property. BCBG Max Azria brands will join Marquee’s portfolio alongside Bruno Magli, Ben Sherman and Body Glove.
“Acquiring these three brands is transformational for Marquee as we step firmly into women’s fashion and further diversify our portfolio,” Zachary Sigel, managing director of Neuberger Berman, the company that sponsors Marquee Brands, said in a statement.
BCBG brands will be managed through a licensed partnership with Global Brands Group, they will continue to expand within mono-branded boutiques, shop-in-shops, department stores and an e-commerce marketplace.
“BCBGMAXAZRIA and BCBGeneration each speak to a very specific woman who has come to rely on these brands to help express her unique style and personality,” Cory M. Baker, COO of Marquee Brands, said. “Few women’s contemporary brands carry this much affinity among consumers and retailers alike.”
BCBG Max Azria was founded in 1989 by Max Azria and his wife Lubov Azria, who was its creative director until March of this year. Together they own 20 percent of the company.
This acquisition comes after BCBG filed for bankruptcy in March, closing 120 stores in a major restructuring.
Jim Langdon of Moore & Van Allen LLP and Christian Neira, general counsel of Neuberger Berman private equity, advised Marquee brands through the acquisition.
