In a world where people are obsessed with celebrities, being able to talk to your favorite star on the phone seems likes a dream.
Pasha King and Teague Egan want to capitalize on this idea with their new app Chatter, but not in the way you think.
Inspired by the Flint Water Crisis, the Chatter app is specifically designed to raise money for charity and connect fans directly with celebrities they admire most via one on one video chat.
“Certain stars were donating personally, but it was happening to slowly,” King says. “There was no way to rally the community quickly.”
Using a raffle-style selection, users can buy a $1 ticket for the chance to speak to one of the participating stars. Once the winner is drawn, the lucky person gets to have a five minute conversation with the star they raffled for. In addition to the raffle format, there is also the option to bid auction style on Chatter time, that helps charities raise money.
Basketball star, Russell Westbrook, recently jumped on board, bringing the total number of stars involved in Chatter over 30. The app hosts actors, singers, online stars and influencers including Drake, Ray Lewis and Leonardo DiCaprio, to name a few.
Every star must donate a portion or all of the proceeds made during raffle sales to the charity of their choice. It winds up being a win for all participants, King says.
The app gives charities a different way to raise money and reach a larger audience, he says.
Spurred on by their passion for giving back, Pasha and Teague also founded the Kindness Project, a non-profit organization aimed at helping people carry out acts of kindness across America.
The hastag #Kindness365 encompasses this mission.
During their tour across America promoting their new app, Pasha and Teague will also be volunteering in over 200 cities in 50 states.
“Although separate entities, it made sense for us to intertwine Chatter and #Kindness365 as they both share the same goal,” Egan says. “To spread kindness, pay it forward and do our little part in making humanity a better place.”
