Shiseido Americas acquires JWALK agency to expand creative expertise

Shieseido Americas Group has acquired JWALK, a full service creative agency based in New York. 
 
As part of the venture, JWALK founder Doug Jacob will assume the role of chief creative director of Shiseido Americas and will report to Jill Scalamandre, president of Shiseido’s Global Makeup Center of Excellence.
 
“Creative excellence is at the core of consumer communication and is key to building the value of our prestige brands,” Masahiko Uotani, president and CEO of Shiseido Group, said in a statement. “I am convinced that JWALK will add significant intangible value and capabilities to our marketing efforts, especially in leveraging their digital communication expertise.”
 
Jacob co-founded JWALK in 2010 with Michael Lastoria and Charlie Walk as a creative agency that focuses on a design and a business strategy. Some of its previous clients include Lacoste, Equinox, Kenneth Cole Reaction Fragrance, and some of Shiseido’s beauty brands. 
 
The main aim of the acquisition is to “grow the creative scope of Shiseido across all markets and contribute to its vision of broadening its digital strategies and consumer marketing campaigns,” Shiseido executives said in a statement. 

“The team and I are excited to work on this industry-leading portfolio of beauty brands, and have the ability to play a truly substantive role in the development process,” Jacob said. “JWALK’s experience as entrepreneurs and thought leaders in service and consumer brands will be pivotal in contributing to the growth and innovation of Shiseido projects from the ground up.”
