Warby Parker Rakes in $36.8M in Series B Funding
Trendy Startup Shakes Up Eyewear Industry
New York-based startup Warby Parker has raised $36.8 million is Series B funding led by General Catalyst. It has been reported that the round could top out at $40 million.
The startup is known for providing higher-quality, better-looking prescription eyewear at a fraction of the price. Warby Parker eyewear is available exclusively through the website and showrooms, glasses retail for $95.
Warby Parker was conceived as an alternative to the overpriced and bland eyewear available today. Prescription eyewear simply should not cost $300+. The industry is controlled by a few large companies that have kept prices artificially high, reaping huge profits from consumers who have no other options. By circumventing traditional channels and engaging with customers directly through their website, Warby Parker is able to provide higher-quality, better-looking prescription eyewear at a fraction of the price.
